National News: India’s maritime security has received a significant boost with the induction of a new high-speed patrol vessel, ‘Adamya,’ into the Indian Coast Guard on Thursday. This vessel, equipped with state-of-the-art technology, is the first in a series of eight Fast Patrol Vessels (FPVs) being constructed by Goa Shipyard Limited (GSL), entirely using indigenous technology.

‘Adamya’—A ’Symbol of Atmanirbhar Bharat

More than just a patrol vessel, ‘Adamya’ stands as a testament to India’s growing self-reliance in defense manufacturing. Over 60 percent of its components have been produced domestically, and its design and construction were handled entirely by Indian engineers. This marks a major step forward in India’s capability to design, build, and deploy modern maritime defense assets.

Equipped with Advanced Weapons and Technology

The vessel is outfitted with modern weapons and integrated control systems that enhance its operational efficiency. Key features include

  • 30 mm CRN-91 naval gun
  • A pair of 12.7 mm stabilized remote-control guns integrated with a Fire Control System (FCS).
  • Integrated Bridge System (IBS)
  • Integrated Platform Management System (IPMS)
  • Automatic Power Management System (APMS)

These systems enable the ship to perform rapid, precise, and multi-dimensional missions at sea, regardless of environmental conditions.

Boost to Surveillance, Anti-Smuggling, and Rescue Operations

According to the Indian Coast Guard, vessels like ‘Adamya’ will greatly enhance maritime patrolling, coastal surveillance, anti-smuggling operations, search and rescue missions, and protection of India’s Exclusive Economic Zone (EEZ). Its speed, agility, and technological integration make it an ideal asset for real-time maritime response.

More Indigenous Ships on the Way

‘Adamya’ marks the beginning of the new FPV series, while the fifth vessel in the lineup, ‘Achal,’ was officially launched on 16th June. This series reflects India’s intention to build a strong indigenous maritime fleet for future needs. More vessels are expected to join the fleet soon, enhancing operational readiness and regional maritime dominance.

The induction of ‘Adamya’ is not merely a new addition to India’s naval assets but a reflection of India’s evolving defense manufacturing ecosystem. It represents a milestone in the Make in India and Atmanirbhar Bharat initiatives, emphasizing the nation’s ability to design, build, and deploy cutting-edge defense platforms. In the years to come, ‘Adamya’ is set to play a critical role in securing India's maritime frontiers and ensuring peace and stability in the region.
